Turkey Hill recalls mislabled ice cream that could trigger allergies

Turkey Hill issued a recall for packages of its Dutch chocolate ice cream that actually contain rocky road ice cream, a flavor containing eggs and almonds that could provoke certain food allergies.

The recall affects 48-ounce containers mislabeled as "Dutch Chocolate Premium Ice Cream," all of which have a lid correctly reading "Rocky Road Premium Ice Cream," the company said in a statement.

While Turkey Hill advised all affected stores to remove the product from its shelves, it said the ice cream poses no safety concerns for consumers without egg and almond allergies.

The affected containers of ice cream have a sell-by date of May 23, 2017, and would have been purchased after Sept. 8 in the these 25 states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The recalled packages, which have a UPC code of 20735-42095, can be returned to their places of purchase for a full refund, the company said.
